Roltec at the EUPVSEC 2024 conference
On September 21 and 22, a representation of scientists from Roltec took part in the 41st edition of EU PVSEC in Vienna - a conference and exhibition devoted to photovoltaic technologies. EU PVSEC is an excellent platform for establishing contacts at the intersection of science and industry.
An interesting exhibition offer and a rich program of events in the conference part, coordinated by the European Commission Research Center, position this event among the most important for the photovoltaic industry in Europe. Over 1,800 participants, 1,100 presentations and panel discussions focused on the challenges currently faced by photovoltaics: increasing cell efficiency, integrating large photovoltaic installations with power grids, energy storage, BIPV, agrophotovoltaics and production prospects.
A team of scientists from the SITA project, of which Roltec is a part, prepared a conference presentation on the results of their work on tandem cells (CIGS on Silicon) entitled "Development of Wide-Bandgap Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Solar Cells and Modules on Transparent Back Contacts," presented by Dr. W. Witte from ZSW. The goal of this work is to produce semi-transparent CIGS cells that, when combined with silicon cells, will create a tandem structure. Achieving transparency will be possible by using ITO as the bottom contact for standard molybdenum-based CIGS cells.
EU PVSEC organizers say: "This year's conference reflected the world's transition to the multi-terawatt era of photovoltaics. Every day, more photovoltaic capacity than a typical nuclear power plant is installed around the world, producing much of the cheapest electricity available. But such rapid growth comes with challenges."
